Landsvirkjun Sells Old HQ

Landsvirkjun’s Board of Directors has decided to part with a significant piece of our history - the Company’s old headquarters at Háaleitisbraut 68 in Reykjavík. These offices have been the heart of the National Power Company of Iceland for almost half a century. While the future HQ is yet to be determined, we operate from the comfortable setting of Katrínartún 2 in Reykjavík.

Landsvirkjun has been actively exploring options for a new HQ in the last few years, as the one at Háaleitisbraut was no longer suitable. However, the pandemic put a pause on these plans. Unfortunately, a mildew issue was discovered at the HQ after the pandemic, further underlining the need for new main offices. In the meantime, our dedicated HQ employees have been working from three locations in Reykjavík: Gróska, Hafnartorg, and Háaleitisbraut. Still, they are now reunited at Katrínartún, which is a rental. A decision to let, buy, or build has not been taken.

The old HQ at Háaleitisbraut 68 in Reykjavík is approximately 4,500 square meters or just under half of the building’s total size.

“Our main offices at Háaleitisbraut have served the Company well for almost 50 years. However, the time has come for us to move. Therefore, the property, which holds immense potential and offers breathtaking panoramic views, is ready to serve new owners. The plot is not fully utilised, allowing for alterations and the possibility of partly creating a residential property.”
